Skills Vs education

We progressively listen to employers, Students, and futurists saying that it is all about the skills, not about the degree or education.

Some of the top richest people in the world are college dropouts and they rank skills higher than the education or degree

such as Bill Gates, Jack ma, larry Ellison steve jobs, and Etc

Elon Musk said in an interview back in 2014 that” There is no need to have a college degree at all or even high school If somebody graduated from a great university that may be an indication that they will be capable of great things but it’s not necessarily the case. if you look at people like Bill Gates, Larry Ellison, and Steve jobs these guys did not graduate from college but if you had a chance to hire them of course that would be a good idea. and if there is a track record of exceptional achievement then likely that will continue into the future.”

US and European people rate skills higher than education but many countries have different opinions on it especially developing countries because,

The quality of education in most of the developing countries is compromised and the educational institutions are just producing graduates with a degree but without the required skills. On the other hand, the job market requires skills as most recently google has waived the requirement for a degree or diploma and they are focusing on skills. I believe that a degree from a good institution embeds skills but this may not be the case in most of the institutions in developing countries.
So what should be more important to the knowledge seekers? Skill or a Degree? I personally believe a degree is important provided it ensures the competence of the graduates and embeds skills.
